(This is my entry for the story contest. It might not be too good, but I sorta like how it turned out )
I gazed across the lake, staring at the ever so still water. There hadn't been a single ripple in ages, aside from the occasional push- ins. There was something special about the lake, as if it held a secret nobody wanted to discover. I suppose you might say I am not nobody, as I wanted to find what it holds beneath its shimmering blue mask. All around the lake, forest went on for a few miles, before it ran into the highway, then city life. That's why I am here, to escape the city; to lose my past. I shook my head, and walked to the edge of the shore, looking at my reflection. One might say I was attractive, with my head full of curled brown hair, my hazel eyes. Others might not, but I don't care. Shawn loves me the way I am, and I love him too. I know he's been hiding something from me, and I wonder if it has to do with the lake and its mysteries. While I pondered the possibilities as I have many times before, I sat down in front of the lake. Soon after, I wondered when Shawn would get here, and I hoped he hadn't forgotten. He was of course my boyfriend now. And the reason I am out here. I didn't like the city, and he was all too happy to bring me here. And now we live in a small cabin close to the lake with each other. In the midst of my thoughts, I felt hands around my waist, and a kiss on my cheek. I knew these hands, and they belonged to Shawn. "Hey honey," I told him, throwing my head back to look up into his eyes behind me. "You're so beautiful, you know that right?" He said, nodding towards my reflection in the lake. I smiled up at his, and he kissed me again. For a moment, we stood there, joined by love. He pulled back and I snapped out of the haze. Shawn yawned and sat beside me, careful not to disturb the water. I saw it in his eyes again. That secret, possibly the secret of all secrets. I looked over at him, my eyes filled with concern, and he returned my gaze. "Is there something... wrong?" I asked him, wondering if he might answer me. If he might finally tell me his secret. Shawn watched me for a long moment, hesitated before replying, "Adelle, there is something I need to show you, and I should have told you before. Come with me," He said, anger hinting at his voice. He stood and set off at a brisk walk around the lake. I hurriedly stood and followed, brushing the sand off me as I walked. We walked for over an hour before we cam to a small pier. He walked to the end and tossed his shirt off, throwing it onto a post. Shawn took off his shoes, and I did the same, assuming we were about to go for a swim. I walked up to him at the end of the pier, and stood at the end, looking into the cloudy blue water. "Adelle, once I show you this, you will never be able to leave the lake, or leave me. If you really do love me, you won't mind," He said, gazing into my hazel eyes. He lifted his hand to my face, and pulled me to him, kissing me. I embraced him, and basked in the warmth of his body. He pulled away, but grabbed my hand. "Don't let go," Shawn told me sternly. He didn't need to say anything else. I squeezed his hand and together, we jumped. I saw the ripples my feet made before I was encompassed by the water. Holding on to Shawn's hand, we swam into the depths of the lake. I discovered I could breath under the water; maybe it was because of Shawn. We came to an abrupt stop before a long, sandy cliff under the water. Shawn took his and my hand and felt along the wall. One spot gave way and he grinned, then pulled us backwards. The wall began to move, and I knew I was about to discover the secret of the lake.
